New Book and Teaching Series by Matthew McDill

Dear Friends,
I am so excited to finally announce the release of my book Loving God: A Practical Handbook for Discipleship. I have written this book for parents (and other mentors) who want to effectively help their children to love and follow Jesus Christ. If you are receiving this, you probably already have a passion for discipleship and helping other parents to disciple their children.

I have created a free teaching video series in order to encourage parents to disciple their children and to know how to get started. This video series covers the ten essential topics for discipleship that are included in my book, Loving God, as well as nine principles for discerning God's will. The release of Loving God will be announced at the end of the video series.

So, here is the favor I would like to ask of you. [It will take less than ten minutes.]

#1 - Go to this link and watch the short video introducing the free video series.

#2 - Share this video with others! [There is a Facebook share button in the post and other share buttons at the end]. Many parents who need these resources will not have access unless you share!

#3 - Like and comment on the post.

Thanks in advance for your help!
Matthew McDill

A Special Night for Homeschoolers with the Appalachian Grizzlies!

Good afternoon! My name is Whitney Wallace and I am on the board for the Ashe Schools of Home Education co-op group in Ashe County, NC..  After attending some of their games during their first season last year, our group approached the High Country Grizzlies about having a special homeschool night.  The High Country Grizzlies are an American Arena League football team that plays in Boone.  They were really excited to have us and decided to plan a whole event to welcome homeschoolers during their opening game on March 17th.  We are trying to get the word out to as many homeschoolers as possible about this special event.  The Grizzlies have challenged us to bring 1000 homeschoolers to the game and we'd love to meet their challenge!

I have included information about the event below, as well as attached a flyer and image that can be shared.  Feel free to pass any of this along to anyone you think might be interested and let us know if you have any questions by emailing homeschoolersmeetthegrizzlies@gmail.com.  We hope to see you at this great event for homeschoolers!

When: March 17, 2017.  Event starts around 5pm and game starts at 7pm.

What: Special ticket prices, meet-and-greet with the players on the field before the game and for autographs after, and more!

Cost:  Tickets are $5 per person just for the tickets or $11 per person if you want the dinner option included (hotdog, drink, chips).  The meet-and-greet with the players before and after is included in the ticket price for our special event.

How to get tickets:  Email homeschoolersmeetthegrizzlies@gmail.com with the following information before Wednesday March 14th:

  • Name and phone number of the person buying the tickets
  • Number and type of tickets being purchased ($5 or $11 option)
  • What county you are coming from.  (Tickets will be separated for pick up by county at Will Call the night of the game.)

That's it!  We will pass along this information to the Grizzlies and their staff will then call to take payment over the phone for the tickets.

We will also be having a canned/non-perishable food drive at the game.  The donated food will be given to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina since they support many local counties.  The Grizzlies have also agreed to make a financial donation to Second Harvest in honor of the homeschoolers in the county who bring the most people to the game!

Email homeschoolersmeetthegrizzlies@gmail.com for tickets or more information and check out our Facebook event and Instagram @homeschoolersmeetthegrizzlies

Each year, NCFCA sponsors both a short film and a creative writing contest open to homeschool students. To see the entry requirements go here: http://www.ncfca.org/short-film-contest/

The winning entrants in the writing contest will have their stories published on the NCFCA website and will also be recognized with trophies at the 2018 National Championships. To see the entry requirements go here: http://www.ncfca.org/creative-writing-contest/.

LoveServes Information Meeting, Dessert Provided!

Have you been praying and looking for a way to get involved and support international missions?

I recently wrote a post about an awesome way to get involved through a ministry called LoveServes. We went to the Dominican Republic with LoveServes this summer! I think homeschool families will find they are particularly like-minded with this ministry.

If you would like to learn more, one of the local Dominican pastor coaches and a founder of LoveServes will be in Boone on Monday, Oct 23, 7pm @ Home Builders Plaza, 755 NC Hwy 105, Boone, NC. You will be able to learn about what God is doing through LoveServes and how to get involved. [Dessert will be served]

Thanks for considering!

NCES: Participate in Mock Survey, Earn $40

My name is Kim Curtis and my firm, Activate Research, is working with the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) to update its national survey examining K-12 education in the United States. Recognizing that homeschooling and virtual schooling are increasingly popular choices for American families, NCES has added some questions about this educational choice to its upcoming Parent and Family Involvement survey. NCES is interested in making sure that these questions are written in a way that families will understand and be able to answer. We are now seeking families willing to take a mock survey to receive their feedback on these new questions. The interview will take no more than one hour (either in person or via skype) and participants will receive $40 in compensation.

Here is an example of a previous survey:
https://nces.ed.gov/nhes/pdf/pfi/PFI_homeschool_2012.pdf

If, after reviewing this material, you are interested in participating, please call 202-971-3162 to complete a brief telephone screening to determine if you are eligible. The telephone screening will take approximately 5 minutes to complete. If eligible, we will schedule you for an interview that fits your schedule.

Best regards,
Kim Curtis
